I saw the X Factor auditions were coming to Denver, Colorado on my Nine9 Castings page so I asked my voice teacher to help me pick out a song for the big day. It was a great experience. One of the producers got the crowd all fired up before they let us into the Denver Coliseum. Later I sang “When I was Your Man” by Bruno Mars for one of the judges. When I hit a strong note during the song he put his hand on one of the green pieces of paper on his clip board which meant I made it through the first round! Even though the next day they said my voice sounded a bit too young, making it though the first day was exciting and a success. More to come!

I used the Nine9 website and searched theater castings in Denver. The website revealed that auditions were going to be held for two boys with unchanged voices for a Main Stage Theater production of the Sound of Music in downtown Littleton. Being a thirteen year old boy with an unchanged voice I thought I would audition even though my experience was limited to Christian Youth Theater. I was called back. My dad rented the DVD from blockbuster to prepare for the call back and I fell in love with the story and the songs. My mom answered the phone five days after the call back audition. The director said, "We would like Justin to play Friedrich" and just like that I was cast as the oldest boy of the Van Trapp singing family. The show just finished its third week of performances with standing ovations at every one. I am still living the dream and have 25 more performances to go until December 30th. Now that's exposure! Also, I am enjoying my friendships and learning so much with this amazingly talented and professional cast.
